The World of Work

After you have an idea of your interests and skills, you can begin to search for an appropriate and satisfactory career.  To find information about careers, look at reference works, including encyclopedias, and almanacs.  Ask counselors, teachers, relatives, and employers for advice.  Examine books that contain career information, such as the Occupational Outlook Handbook and Dictionary of  Occupational Titles.

These sources can provide you with information about the types of jobs that exist.  They can tell you about working conditions, job duties, possible salaries, and required training or special skills.  They can also lead you to training institutions, including technical and trade schools, community and junior colleges, apprenticeship programs, training programs offered by the armed services, colleges and universities, and on-the-job training programs.
