Circlet is an old European dice game. I have modified it to focus on developing knowledge of idiomatic expressions. The rules are as follows:
Objective: To be the first player to mark off all the number on his circle is the winner.
The Play: Begin your turn by rolling 2 dice. Add the face value of the dice thrown and proceed with your turn as follows:
1. Rolling 7
Sevens are wild. Dab off any one number visible on your circle. Remember - you must be able to define the idiom in order to mark off the space. You must now PASS the dice to the next player.
2. Rolling any other number
If the number thrown is visible on your circle, dab it off after you define the idiom. Continue your turn by tossing the dice again , defining the idiom on that space, and dabbing off the number thrown. Repeat this procedure until you roll a number that has ALREADY been dabbed off OR until you are unable to define an idioms. When this happens, you must pass the dice to the next player. Passing the dice at this point may result in one of your opponents scoring a BONUS.
3. Scoring a BONUS
When a player rolls a number that has already been dabbed off from his circle or is unable to define an idiom, the first player to the left with this number still visible gets to dab it off from his circle (but only if he can define the idiom on the space). If no player can use the number thrown, then no player benefits. |
