Skill Focus:  General Knowledge

                       Cultural Literacy

                       Vocabulary

Rationale: This is my intermediate (Gr. 3-5) cultural literacy program. Classroom teachers often assume that their students have mastered certain basic knowledge and they build new concepts upon this knowledge.  However, it is my experience that many language impaired students have not acquired this information, which leads to more confusion in the classroom setting.

How Does it Work?

There are 10 challenges in the Fun Fact Fever Challenge.  Each one focuses on a specific area: i.e. foods, animals, science, social studies, math.  After reviewing the challenge in Speech Class, students are given that specific sheet to take home and practice with their parents.  When the parents feel that the student has mastered the facts, they sign the bottom of the paper and send it back to me.  I quiz the student and if they get 8/9 correct, they can go on to the next level.  Progress is tracked using a Fun Fact Fever Bulletin Board In early May, students who have completed all 10 FFF Challenges are invited to a Pizza Party Celebration of Learning.
